1) Before Using SonicStage Mastering Studio

System Requirements
- SonicStage Mastering Studio is designed to only run on a VAIO computer with a standard installation of Windows XP.
- Display settings
   - Screen Resolution	: 1024 x 768 pixels (or higher)
   - Colors : Medium (16 bit) (or higher)
- Supported Audio Devices
SonicStage Mastering Studio has been verified to work with the following audio devices:
   - VAIO built-in audio devices
   - Roland EDIROL UA-5 AUDIOCapture USB Audio Interface
     (referred to below as the UA-5)
When using the UA-5, be sure to set it to Advanced Mode. SonicStage Mastering Studio will not work with a UA-5 set to Standard Driver Mode. For details, refer to the "Getting Started" manual supplied with the UA-5. Also, for further information on using the UA-5 with SonicStage Mastering Studio, see " 3) Using the UA-5 USB Audio Interface " below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Important Notes

Installation
- Be sure to log on as a user with Administrator privileges before installing SonicStage Mastering Studio.

Operation When Logged On as a Restricted User
- The following restrictions apply when operating SonicStage Mastering Studio while logged on as a Restricted User:
  - You are not able to import files.
  - You are not able to create audio CDs.
  - You are not able to register a recording to SonicStage.

Changing the Screen Resolution and Colors
- Do not change the Screen Resolution or Colors settings while SonicStage Mastering Studio is running. Doing so may cause the screen contents to display improperly.

Registering a Recording in SonicStage
- Recordings saved as WAV files can be registered in SonicStage only if SonicStage ver. 1.5.50 (or later) is installed on the same computer. This feature will not work with previous versions of SonicStage or if SonicStage is not installed on the computer.

Outputting Files in WAV File Format
- Playback of WAV files recorded at a 16-bit bit depth and a 96 kHz sampling rate is restricted to software that is compatible with this bit depth/sampling rate format. Refer to the specifications of the playback software you are using for details.
Windows Media Player, for example, cannot play back files recorded at a 24-bit bit depth.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

3) Using the UA-5 USB Audio Interface
- The UA-5 comes with two types of drivers, a WDM and an MME driver. It is recommended that you install and use the WDM driver when working with SonicStage Mastering Studio.
- Do not turn off the power to the UA-5 or unplug the USB cable while recording. If this should happen, it is strongly recommended that you restart Windows at that point, since there is a possibility of Windows becoming unstable.
- If you hear noise or sound skips during playback or recording, try the following to correct the problem:
  * Increase the UA-5 audio buffer size
For information on how to increase the audio buffer size, refer to the "Audio Device UA-5 Connection Guide" help file supplied with SonicStage Mastering Studio or the "Getting Started" manual supplied with the UA-5.
  * Disconnect other USB devices
If other USB devices, such as a USB printer or the receiver for a Giga Pocket remote control, are connected to the computer, disconnect these devices and try recording again.
  * Remove the USB hub
If you are using a USB hub, remove the hub, connect the UA-5 directly to the computer and try recording again.
  * Connect the UA-5 to a different USB port on the computer
If the computer has more than one USB port, connect the UA-5 to a different port and try recording again. (Be sure to shut down the computer before changing USB ports.)
  * Turn off Automatic Functions
Turn off the Automatic Track Marking and Automatic Song Info Acquisition functions and try recording again. (You can carry out Automatic Track Marking and Automatic Song Info Acquisition using the Edit panel after recording has completed.)

If the above methods do not solve the problem, refer to the "Getting Started" manual supplied with the UA-5 or, for technical support and details, please contact an EDIROL distributor in your country or visit them online at www.edirol.com.
